History

The Treasury Building

The Treasury, located at 24 Cathedral Place in St. Augustine, Florida, stands as the city's tallest building and a testament to its rich history. Constructed in 1926 and completed in 1927, this Mediterranean Revival-style skyscraper was originally the First National Bank of St. Augustine. Designed by architect F.A. Hollingsworth, the building features distinctive elements such as clay tile hoods, cast terra cotta ornamentation, and a domed tower with Corinthian columns .

Over the years, the building has undergone several transformations, serving as the Exchange Bank, Atlantic Bank, and First Union National Bank before being sold to private investors in 1985. In 2014, the ground floor was renovated and repurposed into a premier wedding and event venue, preserving many of its original architectural details, including marble flooring and towering Romanesque columns .

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Treasury continues to be a symbol of prosperity and old world charm. Today, the Treasury also houses Stella Maris Spa on the fifth floor, offering luxurious treatments with stunning views overlooking historic downtown St. Augustine.
