Manual Lymphatic Drainage: Supporting Your Body's Natural Detoxification and Healing

Have you ever felt puffy, sluggish, swollen, or simply not quite yourself? Your lymphatic system may be asking for a little support.

At Stella Maris Health Spa, one of my specialties is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), a gentle yet highly effective technique designed to support the body's natural lymphatic flow. My approach combines Vodder-style Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Neuro-Lymphatic techniques, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupressure to create a treatment that is both therapeutic and deeply relaxing.

What Is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is often called the body's "second circulatory system."

It helps:

  • Remove waste and toxins from tissues

  • Support immune function

  • Reduce fluid retention

  • Transport nutrients and proteins

  • Maintain healthy tissue health and healing

Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system does not have a pump like the heart. It relies on movement, breathing, muscle contractions, and healthy tissue mobility to function optimally.

When lymphatic flow becomes sluggish, you may experience:

  • Swelling or puffiness

  • Feeling heavy or bloated

  • Brain fog

  • Fatigue

  • Poor recovery after illness or injury

  • Sinus congestion

  • Inflammation

  • Slow healing

What Is Vodder-Style Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Developed by Dr. Emil Vodder in the 1930s, Manual Lymphatic Drainage uses light, rhythmic, precise movements designed to stimulate lymphatic vessels and encourage healthy drainage.

Unlike traditional massage, MLD is extremely gentle. More pressure is not better.

The goal is to encourage the body's natural lymphatic pathways to move fluid efficiently and support overall wellness.

Many clients find the treatment so relaxing that they drift into a deeply restorative state.

My Unique Approach

In addition to Vodder-style, I incorporate:

Neuro-Lymphatic techniques with TCM Acupressure and applied sound therapy for a treatment that works with multiple systems of the body rather than focusing on fluid movement alone.

MLD may be beneficial for individuals experiencing:

Why a Series Works Best

One treatment can be wonderful.

A series is where transformation happens.

Think of lymphatic drainage like exercise or healthy eating. Consistency often creates the greatest results.

My Recommended Program

Initial Session

  • 60 Minutes

  • Comprehensive assessment and full treatment

Follow-Up Sessions

  • 30 Minutes

  • Targeted support and maintenance

This approach allows us to establish healthy lymphatic movement and then build momentum over time.

Your Results Depend on What Happens Between Sessions

The most successful clients participate in their own wellness journey.

I provide recommendations that may include:

  • Hydration

  • Gentle movement

  • Breathing exercises

  • Self-lymphatic techniques

  • Rebounding or vibration therapy

  • Targeted self-care products

When professional treatment is combined with consistent home care, results are often more noticeable and longer lasting.
